Robert Lang Campbell was born 21 January 1825 to Alexander Campbell and Agnes Lang in Scotland. He was baptized in August 1842. He served a mission in Scotland and Wales from 1843-1845. He emigrated to Utah, and was engaged in clerical work in Nauvoo and in Salt Lake City. While in Salt Lake, he was the chief clerk/city recorder in the Church Historian's office. Nathaniel Vary Jones was born October 13, 1822 in Brighton, New York the son of Samuel and Lucinda Kingsley Jones. Jones worked as a ship carpenter under his father until about age seventeen. In 1839 Jones moved to Wisconsin and there joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1843 he moved to Nauvoo, Illinois.
